Stay in touch where there is no phone signal.
TrailMesh7 pairs your phone with a TrailMesh7 LoRa tag and gives your group private messaging, live positions and hands-free voice — with no cell coverage, no Wi-Fi, and nobody's network in between.
The tag is a RAK WisMesh Tag running TrailMesh7 firmware. A tag on stock Meshtastic needs one update first — where to buy one.
Private rooms
A room is a group with its own AES key. Messages are encrypted by the app before the radio ever sees them, so only the phones you invited can read them.
Hands-free voice
Dictate a message and hear incoming ones read aloud, over the phone speaker or a Bluetooth headset. Dictation runs on-device, so it keeps working out of range.
Trackers
Turn a spare tag into an unattended beacon and add it to a room. It reports position without anyone carrying a phone for it.
Offline maps
Download the area before you go. The map, your position and everyone else's render with no connection at all.
Group SOS
A double press of the tag button sends a Group SOS after a five-second warning. It goes to your rooms over the radio, not to the emergency services. Anyone who receives it gets a compass bearing to the sender.
Lift-top alerts
On the mountain, the app learns the lifts you ride and can announce your arrival at the top to the group, without you taking a glove off.
How it works
The tag is the radio. It talks to other tags directly over LoRa — long range, very low power, no infrastructure — and to your phone over Bluetooth. The phone is the screen and the keyboard; the mesh is everything else.
Tags relay for each other, so the group's reach is larger than any one pair of radios. Range depends on terrain far more than on settings: a clear line of sight across a valley carries much further than a few hundred metres through trees.
What stays on the mesh
Messages never travel through TrailMesh7's servers, because there is no path for them to take — they go from your phone to your tag, over the air, and out to the phones in the room. Signing in is optional and buys you backups of your tag's settings and keys, nothing more. The privacy page lists exactly what a signed-in account stores.
